Frequently Asked Questions

What is shockwave therapy and how does it work?

Shockwave therapy, also known as extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT), is a non-invasive treatment that utilizes high-energy acoustic waves to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes. By delivering controlled pulses of energy to the affected area, shockwave therapy enhances circulation, promotes tissue regeneration, and reduces inflammation. This innovative technique is particularly effective in treating various sports injuries and chronic pain conditions.

What types of injuries can be treated with shockwave therapy in Commack?

In Commack, shockwave therapy is commonly used to treat a range of sports injuries including tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, heel pain, and elbow issues such as tennis elbow. It is also effective for conditions like osteoarthritis, musculoskeletal injuries, and overuse injuries that may not respond well to traditional methods. The therapy can be tailored to address specific concerns based on the patient’s unique condition.

Is shockwave therapy painful?

Most patients find shockwave therapy to be tolerable and experience minimal discomfort during the procedure. The treatment involves delivering focused acoustic waves, which may create a sensation similar to a mild tingling or tapping. Patients may experience some soreness in the treated area afterward, but this typically subsides quickly. Anesthesia is not usually required, making it a convenient option for many.

How many treatments are needed for effective results?

The number of treatments required can vary based on the severity of the injury and the individual patient’s response to shockwave therapy. Generally, a treatment plan consists of 3 to 5 sessions, spaced a week apart. Patients typically begin to notice improvements after their first few sessions, but complete healing may take longer depending on their specific condition.

Does insurance cover shockwave therapy?

Shockwave therapy coverage varies by insurance provider and specific policy. It is essential for patients to check with their insurance company to determine if this therapy is included in their benefits.
